Agave filifera needs a bright place to grow to form a dense clump of threaded rosettes. The latin name 'filifera' means 'carrying threads'.

This oddly attactive plant can be grown indoors in containers, but beware of the sharp rigid leaf tips. They can easily penetrate through clothes and skin.

Two-inch flowers later form on a tall (6ft) spike which emerges from the center of the plant. Propagation is done by seeds and offsets from the parent.
