Good news for cooler climates: This is the most cold-hardy of the spiral gingers having been tested and proven root hardy down to 0°F. The approaching warm season will encourage new growth.

Being an erect plant, Costus speciosus can grow to about 8ft tall. Crepe ginger grows from thick fleshy roots called rhizomes. Under optimum conditions, a single rhizome can easily produce a 3ft wide clump during the second year.

Formed on red cone-shaped bracts, the white crinkled flowers may appear in early Fall or late Summer.
