Echinocereus triglochidiatus can be found growing over quite a large area. Nevada, Utah, southwest Colorado, southern California, northern Arizona, northwest New Mexico, West Texas and northwest Mexico. The plant goes by several common names which include Hedgehog, Claret Cup, and Strawberry Cactus.
This variety of cactus is surprisingly resistant to cold - (some Echinocereus tolerate sub-zero temperature). Water regularly with intense dry heat of Summer. Little or now water is necessary during Winter months. E triglochidiatus can tolerate full-sun exposure.
Over time, your Echinocereus triglochidiatus will mature to a mound of short branching columns (each about 10-inches tall). Attractive in the landscape, the scarlet goblet-shaped flowers persist for days.
