Gibbaeum is a genus of about twenty species. Populations are seemingly restricted to quartz fields in an arid inland basin of South Africa known as the Little Karoo Desert. These quartz fields are home exclusively for about 150 plant species. Gibbaeum cryptopodium is one of these rare species.

Being capable of enduring a light frost, keep Gibbaeum cryptopodium dry during the cold Winter months. In the Summer, lightly water the soil only when you notice the leaves to shrivel. Provide more water when this plant is actively growing in the Fall and Spring. Grow in a brightly lit area.
