A true gem for the collector, this Palm from Australia now has a spot in the catalog. It occupies an area above 2600ft in the mid-level rainforests of NE Australia where the climate is a bit cooler.

Laccospadix australasica grows to about 10ft, generally forming a single slender trunk. However unusual, this Palm may later form multiple trunks. It's quite a display, as each new feather-shaped leaf is colored red. (what a show-off!)

Flowers form on a long draping spike, only to be replaced by tightly-packed, bright-red berry-shaped seeds.

It's been suggested this Palm is hardy to 27°F, though it would likely become damaged. Moreover, it prefers shade over full sun with regular water.

(possibly a good candidate for growing indoors)
