This slow-growing fan palm from Queensland (Australia) may grow to a height of about 25 feet (maybe taller) on a slender trunk. Populations are said to occur near Mission Beach, Tully, Daintree River and Cape Tribulation.

As a young plant, this Palm requires shade. Licuala ramsayi should be grown in shade all through its life however, and it seems the deeper the shade the healthier the palm. Provide lots of water and keep above 40°F. Protect from high winds.

Large circular-shaped leaves may be as wide as 5 feet on older plants. The leaflet tips are jagged-edged.

Although a cold tolerant species, Licuala ramsayi is still a tropical/sub-tropical plant and definately not frost hardy. a highly desirable warm-weather palm.
