Santa Rita Prickly Pear and the Pancake Prickly Pear came together for this interesting variety, so here's the brief.

Opuntia chlorotica var. santa rita seems to identify closely with the Pancake prickly sharing such traits as relatively long (almost hair-like) bristles. The purple color of the pads when the temperature drops can be attributed to Santa Rita pedigree.

Santa Rita, being hardy to 0F once established, may influence the new variety to grow some pads and tough out the cold.

The Opuntia chlorotica santa-rita variety is seldom offered for sale or trade.
