Oreocereus celsianus is a showy columnar cactus that can be found growing in Bolivia, Peru and northern Argentina. A mature height of about 10 feet may be reached after many years.

Despite the whispy white hairs, this cactus appreciates partial shade where the sun is intense and dry heat is abundant such as southern Arizona. Oreocereus celsianus is very frost resistant and should survive night temperature of 10-15°F if roots are kept dry. Water lightly.

Showy 3 to 4-inch tubular flowers emerge in summer on older plants. Handle carefully as the thorns are very rigid and sharp. Although a slow grower, this cactus makes a great addition to any collection.
